Police gunned down History sheeter Balaji in Chennai
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 18 (ANI): History sheeter Balaji alias Kakka Thoppu Balaji who was absconding was killed on Wednesday early morning in a remote area at Viyasarpadi, Chennai, said police.
As per police officials, Balaji was caught at a police checkpost in Kodangayur during a vehicle inspection. When police inspector Saravanan inspected the car, Balaji tried to escape. It was said that Balaji tried to use a gun and in retaliation, the police shot him.
The encounter happened in a remote area near the abandoned BSNL employee quarters, said police.
He was initially taken to Stanley Hospital, where he was declared dead and then taken to Royapet Government Hospital where his body was kept, said police.
Notably, 59 cases are pending in the name of Balaji.
North Chennai JC Pravesh Kumar, Pulianthope DC Muthukumar and the Forensic team inspected the encounter spot.
Relatives of Balaji condemned the police and alleged that the police had murdered Balaji.
This is the second police encounter in Chennai city after BSP Leader Armstrong’s Murder. Earlier Thiruvengadam, a history-sheeter was encountered on the Armstrong murder case.
