Poonch Campus organize awareness Programme On “Drug Abuse
JAMMU, January 17: Poonch Campus University of Jammu today organized One
Day Awareness Programme On “Drug Abuse: Awareness Amongst the Youths.
The aim behind organizing this program is to spread awareness regarding this menace among the general masses in district Poonch about the drawbacks and destruction being
caused to society due to this drug abuse. Since UT Govt and Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched a war against the drug menace
throughout the state especially in district Poonch under the banner
“Sanjeevene”. The awareness Programme was organized in collaboration
with the health department (PHC Chandak).
Dignitaries present on this occasion included Chief Medical Officer Poonch Dr Shamim, District Information Officer Mr. Vishal Deep , Tehsildar Haveli Poonch Mr. Anjum Khataak, DySP Headquarters Afrat Hussain, Naib Tehsildar Mr. Mahoof Khan, Mr. Nazarat Hr. Sec. School Chandak, Sarpanchs, Panch’s of Janyar and dingla, Medical Officer Dr. Rahul, District Coordinator Mission Shakti Department Poonch Ms Noreen Azam and Rasmeet Kour, Molvi Fareed NGO, Mulana Farooq Misbai, Dr Mehak, Faculty members from the department of
Sericulture Dr Rubia, Dr Suraksha, Dr Muzafar, Ms Kalpna, besides non-teaching staff, Students of the Poonch campus and other educational institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Medical Officer, District Hospital Poonch who was also the chief guest thanked Poonch Campus, especially Director Prof. Dipankar Sengupta for organizing this awareness programme on a very important topic.
She further said that such awareness programs will definitely help to aware the common masses about the drawbacks of this deadly disease which is destroying our future generations.
She further highlighted the psychological and medical aspects of Drug abuse in tender age students. “These narcotic drugs affect the
nervous system of the addicts,”
DySP Headquarters Afrat Hussain who was the special guest on the occasion said that this initiative from Poonch Campus will go a long way in dealing with the such a disastrous problem
within our society.
He said that this drug menace is badly affecting society and its pertinent to spread awareness among People especially the youth, against this evil in
society. Further in his comment, he complimented the role of Poonch Campus in guiding the society against this menace and congratulated the whole campus for this bold step. “Under the banner of “Sanjeevene”, the
J&K Govt’s war against drug peddlers will continue and “we are committed to save the youths from this deadly disease,” he added
He insisted the students to fight against this in their vicinities for eradication of drug abuse.
Speaking on the occasion Director Poonch Campus Prof Dipanker Sengupta
Said that by organizing such events, which are directly associated with the common masses, will help to uproot this problem from district Poonch.
He extended his gratitude to District Administration for their unending support in organising such events.
The District Information Officer, Mr. Vash deep said that such kind of events are always helpful to make the people aware about the
drug abuse and its consequences, with special focus on the awareness of youngsters and their parents.
Tehsildar Haveli Anjum Khattak informed people about various routes of drug consumption like drinking, snorting, smoking, injecting into their blood vessels. “The various side effects include mental as well as physical dependence which makes it difficult for the addict to stop its usage, local infections at site of infection, blood stream infections which affect heart, kidneys lungs, and brain which is hazardous health threat” he adde
He further said that there are several students who consume drugs for recreational purposes and end up being dependent on such substances.
Dr Rahul from PHC Chandak also briefed the audience about the initiatives health department is taking to provide medical aids to the effected peoples.
Campus Officer and convener of this program, Dr Rubia Bukhari, extended her heartfelt gratitude to all the dignitaries present in the event .

controlling the drug menace.
She further said that efforts of all these departments, Police, civil administration, Health, information and media and various NGOs is
critical for limiting this sickness, as with their collaborative and continuous efforts can wrest us out of the grip of this evil, whether it’s creating awareness or providing rehabilitation or guiding the youth in the right direction. “I would like to make a special mention of the sanjeevani operation run under the aegis of Jammu and Kashmir police Poonch targeting the drug menace in the poonch district,” she said adding further that in future also Poonch Campus will continue to strive for the benefit of the society.
Dr Suraksha I/C Department of Sericulture gave a detailed lecture on various aspects of drug abuse and also presented bouquet to the dignitaries
Miss Kalpana Sudan Coordinator of the event. She said that menace of drug abuse is a biggest challenge where government alone cannot succeed unless there is community help, parental assistance and proactive role shown by all sections of society
Students of campus with other educational institutes organised a rally as well besides Certificates and momento were distributed among guests and students also.
