Pr. D&S Judge inspects District Jail Kupwara Inspects jail premises, interacts with prisoners

KUPWARA, MAY 17: In accordance with the directions of NALSA and J&K Legal Services Authority, Shazia Tabasum, Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority/ Pr. District & Sessions Judge, Kupwara today conducted the inspection of District Jail Kupwara.


The objective of the inspection was to take stock of health and hygienic conditions of jail inmates, condition of barracks, washrooms and other related issues required for the wellbeing of the inmates.


The Chairperson was accompanied by Chief Prosecution Officer, Kupwara, Chief Administrative Officer, Assistant LADC Kupwara and other officials of DLSA Kupwara.
During the visit, the Chairperson inspected the jail premises to review the prevalent condition and the state of prisoners lodged therein. The quality of food and water, medical facilities, conditions of washrooms, and spacing within the barracks was also inspected.


The Chairperson also interacted with the prisoners placed in different barracks and inquired about their health and the quality of food and water provided to them. She also inspected the facilities available at Video Conferencing Hall, Medical Clinic, Legal Aid Clinic and cooking area of the jail.


She also inquired about the condition of jail inmates whose trial is pending outside the District and stressed upon the Jail Visiting Lawyers and PLVs to record the grievances of jail inmates for early redressal and timely action.
