“Process to verify identities of Bangladeshi nationals coming to Odisha to be initiated soon”: Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan
Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], August 11 (ANI): Amid Bangladesh’s political turmoil, Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said the process to verify the identities of Bangladeshi nationals who are coming to Odisha will be initiated soon as a lot of people are coming to our nation and Odisha through West Bengal.
“A lot of people are coming to our nation and Odisha through West Bengal. The process to verify the identities of Bangladeshi nationals who are coming to Odisha will start very soon. We have already alerted our coastal security,” Harichandan told reporters.
He further stated, “The Odisha CM has also reviewed the situation. All the marine police stations have been sensitised after the political turmoil in Bangladesh.”
Meanwhile, thousands of Canadians staged a protest on Sunday across downtown Toronto to stand in solidarity against the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation.
The protesters urged the Canadian Government to press the Dhaka Government to protect Hindus in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh is facing a fluid political situation with Sheikh Hasina, tendering her resignation from her post on August 5 in the wake of mounting protests.
The protests, led majorly by students demanding an end to a quota system for government jobs, took the shape of anti-government protests.
Muhammad Yunus was sworn in as the head of Bangladesh’s interim government on August 8 night, three days after Sheikh Hasina resigned from the position of Prime Minister and left the country amid widespread unrest.
Seventeen members of Bangladesh’s interim government took their oath at a ceremony in Dhaka on Thursday. Nobel laureate economist Muhammad Yunus, 84, was sworn in as the country’s chief advisor.
Bangladesh’s President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath to Yunus for his role as chief advisor, which is the equivalent of a Prime Minister.
