Prof Dinesh Singh, Vice-Chairman, JKHEC Shares Roadmap for Capacity Building of the Faculty & making Masters Programmes Socially Relevant

Jammu, Feb 15- Prof. Dinesh Singh, the Vice-Chairman, J&K Higher Education Council and former Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi  today held a  detailed discussion in presence of Prof Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu regarding capacity building of the university faculty. Prof Dinesh Singh elaborated in detail the ways and means that can be initiated to improve the quality of teaching and research at the university.

He stressed the need for training of faculty members in advanced and job-oriented technologies and subjects and offered to help University of Jammu in such endeavours. He advised to invite experts from national and international universities and institutions for capacity building in different disciplines including Artificial intelligence, robotics, physical sciences, mathematical sciences, life and medical sciences,architecture and finance.

Prof Singh while discussing about the international experts, offered his help in fostering collaboration of University of Jammu with Edinburgh University, Middlesex University, Rice University and IISc, Bangalore for exchange of faculty members and research scholars. The academic exchange shall help the University of Jammu in strengthening its curriculum and facilitate the brand image of the university. Prof. Dinesh Singh also shared the roadmap for making masters in rural development and management programme in department of lifelong learning more socially relevant and beneficial both for the students as well as the rural areas of the Jammu region.

He also highlighted the need to replicate such course in other teaching departments of the University of Jammu mainly with an objective to explore and nurture the social and economic potential of the rural youth in Jammu region. Prof Singh highlighted the importance of two way process of learning, where students can also learn from villages, he further added that the importance of libraries in villages and how can “YouTube” be used as a source of knowledge for rural youth. Prof Singh further added that students along with faculty must understand the importance of SMART villages and the SMART villages devise the mechanism for developing in our country

Prof M.M Chaturvedi, former Director, Cluster Innovation Centre, University of Delhi  congratulated the Department of Lifelong Learning for this field-based learning initiative, which can prove a stepping stone towards rural transformation in Jammu & Kashmir. He suggested the faculty members for taking certain measures to enhance the relevance of the said course and also involve agencies from the UT working in the area of rural development.
