Prof J P Singh Joorel Assumes Office as Rector of Bhaderwah Campus
Bhaderwah, January 15: Prof. J P Singh Joorel from the Department of Statistics, University of Jammu today assumes charge as Rector Bhaderwah Campus relieving Prof. Rahul Gupta who served the campus diligently for over three years.
Prof. Rahul Gupta made significant contributions to the development of Bhaderwah Campus during his tenure. The Bhaderwah Campus staff expresses its gratitude for his dedicated service.
The official order from the University of Jammu appointed Prof. J P Singh Joorel as the new Rector of Bhaderwah, relieving Prof. Rahul Gupta from the additional charge. Prof. Joorel brings with him a wealth of experience in administration, having served as the Head of the Department of Statistics for more than five years.
Upon assuming charge, Prof. J P Singh Joorel engaged with the teaching and non-teaching staff, leaving an indelible impression with his inspiring words. He urged everyone to work with honesty and dedication, fostering a collective commitment to the upliftment of Bhaderwah Campus. His extensive career includes leadership roles such as the Director (VC Rank) of the INFLIBNET Centre in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, an Autonomous Inter-University Centre of the University Grants Commission, where he served for five years. Presently a Professor of Statistics at the University of Jammu, Prof. Joorel boasts a remarkable 37 years of experience in teaching, research, and administration.
Prof. Joorel has a robust academic background, having served at various esteemed institutions such as Jammu University, Dr Y S Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry, Solan, HP, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Agra University (Agra College), and U P Government. He has supervised twenty-five Ph.D. and M.Phil students, published approximately 100 research papers in reputed journals, authored book chapters, and presented at international/national conferences.
His contributions to Jammu University include serving in various key positions, such as Director, UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, HoD, OSD (Examinations), Dean Faculty, Coordinator (DST PURSE Scheme), and Director UGC-HRDC, among others. Prof. Joorel has also been an active participant in decision-making bodies like the University Council, Syndicate, Finance Committee, and Planning and Monitoring Board.
Beyond his university roles, Prof. Joorel has made valuable contributions to the academic community, serving on the Council of “The Indian Statistical Institute” and Governing Bodies of several Autonomous Colleges. He has been a member of important committees and boards, including the ICT Committee of NAAC, Academic Council of Consortium of Educational Communication (Inter-University Centre of UGC), Empowered Committee of UGC-CARE, and more.
Prof. J P Singh Joorel’s vast experience and exposure to national bodies focused on academic and educational growth make him a valuable addition to the leadership team of Bhaderwah Campus. His international exposure, having travelled to the U.S.A., Australia, Portugal, Thailand, Taiwan, and Malaysia, further enriches the academic diversity he brings to the position.
Additionally, Prof. Joorel has been a member of search committees responsible for appointing Vice-Chancellors in various universities, showcasing his commitment to fostering academic excellence.
