Professor Rajni Kant appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University Bhopal
JAMMU, September 08- Professor Rajni Kant, Dean Research Studies and Professor of Physics, University of Jammu, has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University Bhopal. A communication to this effect has been received by the university. He has been appointed for a term of four years.
Professor Rajni Kant joined the University of Jammu as Lecturer in 1989 and became full professor in 2003. Prof Rajni Kant has many firsts to his rich academic career; being the first young scientist awardee-1991 by the state council of science and technology and the DST- BOYSCAST fellow at University of Oxford during 1994-95. Last year, Prof Rajni Kant was elected as the Fellow of Royal Society of London (FRSC) and Fellow of Indian Chemical Society. During 2020, he was selected as a Fellow of Ministry of Human resource Development under its LEAP-2.0 Programme which he completed successfully at IIT Kharagpur and Cambridge University, U.K.
Prof Rajni Kant has presented his research work in the field of small molecule X-ray crystallography at more than ten international conferences held at USA, UK, Singapore, New Zealand, Thailand, Spain, Japan, etc., besides his participation in over ninety conferences within the country. Last year he was elected by the research community as the Nation President of Indian Crystallographic Association for a term of three years.
Professor Rajni Kant has served the University of Jammu in various capacities as Rector Ramnagar and Kathua Campus, Chief Coordinator all offsite campuses of JU, Controller of Examination, twice as Director College Development Council, Director Distance Education, Director Academic Staff College of UGC, Dean Faculty of Science and Head of Physics and Electronics Department. Besides this he possesses a rich academic contribution, having guided 29 Ph.D and 51 M.Phil students and published 483 research papers in national and international journals. He has executed eighteen research projects as sanctioned by all national funding agencies like DST, UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DAE. On September 5th, while inaugurating the Foundation Day celebrations of JU, the Revised Edition of his very popular book titled as Applied Solid State Physics (published by Wiley) was released by the Hon’ble Chancellor, JU and Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha.
