Property Tax: DC briefs Municipal Committee Surankote about provisions, exemptions

POONCH, February 25: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Poonch, InderJeet today chaired a meeting of elected ward members to discuss the provisions of “Property Tax” introduced by the Government of J&K UT here at Municipal Committee Surankote.    

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner briefed the elected body of the Municipal Committee about all the parameters of property tax for further awareness to the general public through them.

The discussion focused on the implementation of the property tax, the procedures to be followed, the rate of tax to be levied and the facilities to be provided to the tax-payers. It was made clear that there would be no tax on any small house up to 1000 square feet.    Moreover, there would be meager tax for those people who have houses beyond 1500 square meters.

 Likewise there would also be a meager calculation of tax on small business establishments. There will be no tax on religious institutions, the house was informed.

 It was also made clear that the tax amount would be used entirely for local area development in the same ward or area from which it is collected.

All the stakeholders present in the meeting also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the administration for giving clear information and facts regarding the property tax.

 Vice President municipal surankote, elected Ward Councillors of Municipal Committee and others also spoke on the occasion.

The meeting concluded with the decision to implement the tax in a phased manner with the rate of tax to be decided upon after further discussions so that no section of the population feel aggrieved and burdened.

The meeting was attended by the President of the Municipal Council  Surankote, Chief Executive Officer of the Municipal Council Poonch, Varinderpal Singh, Ward Councilors besides other concerned were present on the occasion.
