In a press statement issued here today, Martand Singh recalled the heroic role played by the regiment in the expansion and consolidation of Jammu & Kashmir, particularly during the historic conquests of Gilgit-Baltistan and Ladakh. He paid tribute to the valiant soldiers of the erstwhile J&K State Forces, who made the ultimate sacrifice in defending the state against adversaries.
Reflecting on the events of 1947, Martand Singh lauded the exceptional bravery of the J&K State Forces in resisting the Pakistani invasion. “Despite overwhelming odds, our forces made a heroic stand, and we particularly remember the supreme sacrifice of Brigadier Rajinder Singh, MVC, and his handful of Dogra troops who held back the Pakistani invaders at Uri for two crucial days, ensuring vital time for the defense of Jammu & Kashmir,” he stated.
He further emphasized the unique distinction of the JAK Rifles Regiment, which remains the only state force to have been integrated into the Indian Army in its original form, thanks to the instrumental efforts of Dr. Karan Singh Ji. “Since its integration, the regiment has continued its legacy of valor and excellence, earning numerous military honors and medals for its distinguished service to the nation,” he added.
Martand Singh extended his heartfelt congratulations to the officers and soldiers of the JAK Rifles for their proud representation in the Republic Day Parade, reaffirming the unwavering spirit and sacrifice of the regiment in safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of the nation.
