Psychiatrist, Dr Tashi Tundup stressed to seek professional help for mental health issues

LEH, October 10: The Health Department, UT Ladakh in collaboration with District Mental Health Programme and Tele-MANAS, UT Ladakh marked World Mental Health Day today themed ‘Mental health is a universal human right’ at the Ladakh Heart Foundation in Dambuchan Leh.

MD Psychiatrist, Dr. Tashi Tundup emphasizes the significance of World Mental Health Day. He provided a comprehensive overview of various mental health issues and their associated signs and symptoms. Dr. Tundup stressed the importance of seeking medical assistance when facing mental health challenges and called for the end of stigmatization surrounding mental health. A question-and-answer session followed, allowing attendees to engage in an informative discussion.

Tele-Manas Coordinator, Diskit, also highlighted the importance of mental health and encouraged individuals to call the toll-free number for Tele-Manas (14466) for support and guidance.

Assistant Legal Aid Defence Council, Advocate Phuntsok Stobgail spoke about the rights of individuals dealing with mental health issues under various legal acts, shedding light on the legal framework that protects their rights.

Dr. Jameela, the District Health Officer of Leh, extended her gratitude on behalf of the department as she presented the vote of thanks.

The event was graced by the presence of several key figures, including Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Diskit Dolma; State Immunization Officer, Dr. Iqbal Ahmad; District Immunization Officer, Dr. Skarma Diskit; Deputy CMO, Dr. Dolma Chuskit; and General Secretary of the Intervention Meditation Center, Ven Nagasana. Additionally, Tele-Manas staff and students from EJM College Leh joined the occasion, making it a collaborative effort to promote mental health awareness and support in the Leh region.
