Punjab police arrest two people with weapons after encounter in Amritsar

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], October 24 (ANI): Two people were arrested following an encounter with the Punjab police near Diamond Avenue area in Amritsar on Thursday.

According to the police, gunshots were fired by both sides and one person was injured. Later both were arrested with weapons.

Speaking about the encounter in Amritsar, Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said, “We received information at Rambagh police station that on the intervening night of October 18-19, several gunshots were fired outside the residence of a man named Sajan. We took the matter very seriously and we discovered an angle of inter-gang rivalry in the matter.”

“Our officials worked swiftly and identified two of the accused. As soon as our intelligence-based operation reached to nab them one criminal was injured in retaliatory firing. Both of them have been arrested,” said the official.

“Two pistols were recovered from them, one of them was a sophisticated Glock 9mm and .32 bore pistol with 13 rounds. It seems to be a case of inter-gang rivalry. We will soon nab another two accused of the same gang,” added Bhullar.

On Monday, Punjab Border Security Force (BSF) and the state police arrested one person for allegedly trying to smuggle narcotics near the border area of Amritsar, a statement by BSF said.

The BSF seized 530 grams of suspected heroin and one broken mobile phone worth Rs 750 from the accused.

“Acting on the information developed and shared by BSF intelligence wing about a smuggling activity at the border area of district Amritsar, BSF placed a joint ambush in collaboration with Punjab Police in the suspected area,” read a statement by BSF.
