Punjab police bust interstate weapons smuggling module; two held

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], July 15 (ANI): Punjab Police arrested two arms smugglers and unearthed an inter-state weapon smuggling racket on Sunday.

“Amidst the persistent drive against anti-social and anti-national elements, the counterintelligence wing of the Punjab Police has registered another success by busting an interstate weapons smuggling module with the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of six sophisticated pistols along with magazines and ammunition,” the police release stated.

The arrested have been identified as Sumitpal Singh and Arpandeep Singh.

“Pursuing an intel-based operation, Sumitpal Singh s/o Baljeet Singh r/o Thathian PS Harike Distt. Tarn Taran and Arpandeep Singh s/o Kartar Singh r/o Chamba Kalan PS Chohla Sahib Tarn Taran, associates of wanted gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa were apprehended and six pistols 32 bore were recovered from their possession,” it added.

A case FIR No. 42 on Sunday under Section 25 Arms Act, 61 (2) BNS 2023 was registered at the Police Station State Special Operation Cell Amritsar.

Further investigation is being conducted to unearth the entire network of Lakhbir Landa and strenuous efforts are being made to identify and apprehend MP-based illegal weapons dealers.

The arrested accused will be produced in court to obtain police remand.
