Rajni Sethi for action and accountability in Ramban calamity
Ramban 22 April; A very unfortunate incident occurred recently in the Ramban district due to a severe natural calamity. Many people have lost their homes, livestock, and essential belongings. Today, they are struggling to survive, without proper shelter, food, or even clothes to wear. In this time of crisis, their neighbors have stepped forward to help them, showing the spirit of humanity and unity. However, a major question arises — where is the administration? Are they fulfilling their responsibilities sincerely?

This was stated by Rajni Sethi, Spokesperson, J&K BJP, who was also accompanied by Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, Media Incharge, J&K BJP and Adv. Jasmeet Kour Pandey, former Councillor, while addressing a press conference at party headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.
It is disheartening to see that just a few days ago, the flight of Hon’ble CM Omar Abdullah was diverted to Jaipur due to bad weather. He expressed frustration over the situation, even using inappropriate language against the administration and posting his discontent on social media platform X. With due respect, I would like to ask Omar Abdullah Ji: While you have the means to express your grievances publicly, what about the common people stranded on highways without food, water, or shelter? Who will raise their voices? Who will listen to their pain?
At a time when the affected people need strong leadership and compassion, political leaders are still debating whether to declare this a “National Calamity” or a “Major Disaster.” Why must the public suffer amid such bureaucratic delays and political differences?
We deeply appreciate the efforts of the Leader of Opposition, Shri Sunil Sharma Ji, who visited the affected areas, met with the people, and assured them of complete assistance under national and state calamity relief procedures. His prompt response is commendable and brings some hope to the suffering people.
We must also recognize the invaluable efforts of NGOs, RSS volunteers, and the Indian Army, who have stepped in selflessly to provide food, medical help, and other essential facilities to those in need. Their service to the people deserves heartfelt thanks.
Amid this crisis, another heartbreaking incident was discovered — several containers used for cow smuggling were found during the calamity, with animals inside dead under horrific conditions. These containers had reportedly entered from Lakhanpur and crossed several checkpoints. This raises serious concerns — how did they pass through so many Nakas unnoticed? Who is responsible for this inhumane act?
I earnestly request the Director General of Police to take this matter seriously. Strict action must be taken against those involved in such crimes, which not only violate animal rights but also reveal loopholes in law enforcement.
Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to the media and social media platforms for bravely bringing the truth to light. Their fearless reporting has helped raise awareness and hold authorities accountable.
Let us all work together — beyond politics — to ensure justice, relief, and rehabilitation for those suffering in Ramban.
