Rangoli for Democracy: SVEEP Organises Colourful Event in Poonch to Encourage Voting

POONCH, SEPTEMBER 11: The District Election Authority, under the aegis of District Election Officer (DEO) Vikas Kundal, organized a Rangoli competition here today at Shri Dinanath Rafeeq Memorial Government Model Higher Secondary School Girls as part of the ongoing voter education campaign under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program.

The students, through their Rangoli designs, showcased the SVEEP logo and various symbols of democracy, such as the Indian flag, EVM, and slogans emphasizing the importance of voting. These creative expressions not only beautified the event but also reinforced the core messages of civic responsibility and democratic values.

Anjuman Shaheen, the School Principal, (Nodal Officer SVEEP, Haveli Constituency) highlighted the range of activities being organized in the area to reach out to voters, including painting competitions, rallies, and cultural programs. “These initiatives are geared towards ensuring that every eligible voter understands the importance of casting their vote and actively participating in the democratic process,” she said.

DEO Vikas Kundal, who was the chief guest on the occasion, commended the proactive efforts of the students and the school faculty. “The involvement of young citizens and educational institutions plays a key role in promoting informed voting, and it is heartening to see such enthusiastic participation,” Kundal remarked. He also distributed certificates among the participants.

Kaneez Fiza Jafri, a first-time voter at the event, expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “Participating in events like this makes the election feel like a true celebration of democracy. There is a lot of excitement in the air, and it feels great to be part of this important process for the first time.” She emphasized how such initiatives underscore the value of every vote and inspire confidence in the electoral process.

The Rangoli competition is one of many initiatives aimed at voter education ahead of the assembly elections in Poonch district, which will be held on September 25th in the three constituencies of Haveli, Mendhar, and Surankote.
