Reasi police foils bovine smuggling attempt, two arrested
In a continued effort to curb bovine smuggling under the special drive “Operation – DHENU,” the Reasi police have successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt in the Talwara area, resulting in the rescue of two bovines and the arrest of two individuals.
Acting on reliable information received at Police Post Talwara, authorities were alerted to the movement of bovine smugglers who were transporting animals by foot from Talwara towards Kashmir for illegal sale. A prompt response by the police led to the apprehension of Tariq Ali, son of Ashraf Ali, and Abdul Gani, son of Mohd Sharief, both residents of Panassa, Delyot, Tehsil – Thakrakote, District – Reasi. The suspects were found carrying two bovine animals without the necessary permissions from the concerned authorities.

An FIR (No. 92/2024) under Section 188 of the IPC has been lodged at Police Station Reasi, and an investigation is underway to identify and dismantle the broader network involved in this illicit trade.
Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, Mohita Sharma, highlighted the multi-pronged approach adopted by Reasi police to tackle bovine smuggling. She assured that relentless efforts would continue to eradicate this menace from the region.
