Reasi police nabs bovine smuggler, rescues 7 animals in operation ‘Dhenu’
Reasi police, in a continuing effort against cattle smuggling under ‘Operation-Dhenu’, apprehended a smuggler and rescued seven bovine animals in Arnas.
Acting on a tip-off, police laid a naka (checkpoint) near the Narloo bridge. They intercepted Sajad Ahmed, a resident of Bharkh village in Reasi district, who was found transporting seven bovine animals on foot towards Kashmir without proper permission.

On this, Case FIR No. 36/2024 U/S 188 IPC 11(1) (A) PCA Act stands registered at P/S Arnas, and an investigation was initiated to unearth the forward and backward linkages. The whole operation is led by SHO P/S Arnas Insp. Vijay Kumar under the supervision of SDPO Arnas Irfan Khan-JKPS.
Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, Mohita Sharma, said that the police are working on a multi-pronged strategy to tackle bovine smuggling and will take strict action to eradicate this menace.
