Reasi police rescues cattle in operation ‘Dhenu’, driver arrested
In a successful operation against cattle smuggling, the Reasi Police seized a vehicle and rescued two bovines at a checkpoint in Talwara. The operation, codenamed “Operation Dhenu,” is part of a special drive by the police to tackle the illegal trade.

The police intercepted a vehicle (JK20A-1209) driven by Abdul Rashid, a resident of Patta in the Reasi district. Upon inspection, they found two bovines being transported illegally.
A case (FIR No. 52/2024) under Sections 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act has been registered at the Reasi Police Station. The vehicle has been seized, and an investigation is underway to identify other people involved in the smuggling ring.
The operation was led by SHO Reasi Chaman Gorka. Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, Mohita Sharma, said the police are working on a multi-pronged strategy to tackle cattle smuggling and will continue their efforts to eliminate this menace from society.
