Reasi police tightens noose on bovine smugglers, 31 bovines rescued, FIR lodged
In a major crackdown on cattle smuggling, the Reasi Police, under their ongoing Operation Dhenu, successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 31 bovine animals in the Tahral area.
Acting on a tip-off from a reliable source, Police Station Mahore received information about smugglers transporting bovines by foot from Tahral towards Kashmir for illegal sale.

Responding swiftly, the police team apprehended two individuals, identified as Mohd Sharief, son of Mohd Ismail, and Shabir Ahmed, son of Noor Mohd, both residents of Chana Baghie, Tehsil Chassana, District Reasi.
The Mahore Police Station has registered a First Information Report (FIR) No. 31/2024 under Sections 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA) Act.
A thorough investigation is underway to expose the entire network involved in this illegal activity, targeting both the source and intended recipients of the smuggled animals.
Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, Mohita Sharma, IPS, emphasized that Reasi police is employing a multipronged strategy to address bovine smuggling and is committed to eradicating this illegal activity from the society. She assured that the police will leave no stone unturned in their efforts to curb this menace.
