Reasi police tightens noose on bovine smugglers under “Operation-Dhenu”; 8 bovines rescued, FIR lodged
In a significant success under their ongoing Operation Dhenu, Reasi Police foiled an attempt to smuggle cattle through Mahore.
Acting on a tip-off, a police party apprehended two individuals, Abrar Hussain from Angrala and Shamas Din from Lar Tehsil Mahore. They were found transporting eight bovine animals on foot towards Kashmir without the necessary permits.

An FIR (First Information Report) numbered 28/2024 has been registered at Mahore Police Station under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 11(1)(A) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA Act). Investigations are underway to identify any further connections to the smuggling operation.
Mohita Sharma, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police for Reasi, emphasized the department’s multi-pronged approach to tackling bovine smuggling. She assured the public that the police will leave no stone unturned in eradicating this menace from the district.
