Rescue efforts continue on 2nd day after boat tragedy on Jhelum River
Search operations are underway for the second day in the Batwara area of Srinagar, following a boat capsizing incident on the Jhelum River. The tragedy, which occurred on Tuesday morning, claimed the lives of six people and left several others missing.
The boat, which was reportedly carrying 15 passengers, capsized in the Jhelum River near Ganderbal. Among the deceased are two schoolchildren. Local reports suggest that the boat was navigating strong currents due to recent heavy rainfall when a rope used for steering snapped.
Authorities have deployed rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the Indian Army. Locals also participated in the initial rescue efforts.
