Road show and Millet Mela held at Reasi to encourage production and consumption of millets

REASI, DECEMBER 27:  Road show/Millet Mela was held today here at Duggar Dhani, Kheral Reasi. The event was organised in connection with “observance of International Years of Millets” to explore the potential of millets in transforming the agricultural scenario.

Such Melas are organized with aim for creating increased awareness about millets, promoting the agro based products from India on a global scale.

The event was formally inaugurated by  ADDC Reasi, Jyoti Slathia in presence of Chief Agriculture Officer, Reasi, Harbans Singh, District Agriculture Officer( Extension)  Dharmari, Rajesh Verma, SMS- DL, Raghuvir kochhar, District Coordinator JKNRLM, Jugal besides Sarpanch, Kheral, Noor Fatima.

The event included a road show campaign on the millets promotion and an exhibition.  On the occasion chief guest inspected the various stalls displaying agriculture and allied activities.

ADDC Reasi requested all participants to join hands to promote and create awareness about millets leading to increased consumption and cultivation benefitting the farmers.

In his inaugural address, CAO Reasi reaffirmed the resolve of agriculture department to increase awareness regarding millet consumption. He urged everyone present on the occasion to promote millet consumption as it is chemical free and a healthier alternatives.

DAO Dharmari  in his address made a reference to the age old healthy practice of using millets in their diet and having a healthy lifestyle. He said that Govt. of India is now focusing on re-introducing health supplements including millets for promoting a healthy lifestyle among the masses.

The farmers evinced keen interest in the Millet Mela-cum-Exhibition and was a day filled with learning and interaction bringing farmers, woman self help groups and department together at one forum.
