“Sahibzadas’ fight against Mughals sets example for us”: Suvendu Adhikari
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], December 26 (ANI): On the occasion of ‘Veer Bal Diwas’, West Bengal Legislative Assembly Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvdendu Adhikari said that the way Sahibzadas fought against the Mughals to protect their religion and sacrificed themselves sets a proud example for our country and our society.
“Our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi celebrated the Veer Bal Diwas for the first time in our history. Earlier, we did not have such a program on a grand scale. But all of us know their history. The way they fought against the Mughals to protect their religion and sacrificed themselves, this is a proud example for our country and our society,” Adhikari said.
Speaking about the significance of the day, Adhikari said, “Everyone knows that today is Veer Bal Diwas. Sahibzadas sacrificed their lives to protect their religion. Today all patriots, the Sikh community and nationalists come to the gurudwara to bow down their heads and engage in prayers and kirtans.”
The West Bengal LoP said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bharatiya Janata Party national president JP Nadda visited and offered prayers at Gurudwara Bara Sikh Sangat in Kolkata.
“Today we are very happy that in the land of Kolkata, where we have one of the prestigious Gurdwaras, our Union Home Minister, our party national president and we came to offer our prayers. It was a nice program where we along with those engaged with the Sikh community came together and held kirtan, read the Guru Granth Sahib, ardas, took prasad and bowed down our heads together” Suvendu Adhikari said.
In reply to a question asked by a reporter on the timing of the event as Amit Shah and JP Nadda had a party program in Kolkata on Tuesday, Adhikari said, “This has nothing to do with election. They have a program in Kolkata there. They started it with the Gurdwara.”
“All people associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party, including MPs, MLAs and even the Prime Minister started their day after praying for Veer Bal,” he added.
On the day of the Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, on January 9, 2022, Prime Minister Modi announced that December 26 would be marked every year as ‘Veer Bal Diwas’, to mark the martyrdom of his sons Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji.
The day also marks the birth anniversary of Udham Singh, a great revolutionary, who avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Amritsar on Baisakhi in 1919 by killing General O’Dwyer, who ordered his forces to open fire on peaceful protesters, in March 1940.
