Inspection drives to continue in coming days
SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 28: Acting on the directions of Commissioner State Taxes Department, the flying squad constituted for district Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal led by Tabassum Kamili, Deputy Commissioner Appeals-I, Kashmir visited various business hubs in Srinagar.
The flying squads have been constituted across all districts to conduct surprise checks on businesses to ensure compliance of provisions of the Goods and Services Tax.
During the visit, the squad conducted a detailed inspection of records at Industrial Estate Sanath Nagar, various businesses in and around Sanat Nagar, Batmaloo, Tengpora and Bemina areas. The inspections covered several establishments including departmental stores, shopping malls, salons, restaurants, bakery establishments, pharmacies etc.
The primary focus of the visits was to ensure compliance to the provisions of Goods and Services Tax as well as verify the income and expenditure vis a vis the claimed tax liabilities.
The squad was also seen educating the taxpaying business establishments regarding the significance of issuing proper invoices, filing timely returns and taking every measure to avoid unregistered purchases.
With a focus on increasing revenue collecting and ensuring regulatory compliance, penal action was also initiated against unregistered businesses. Bank account statements of such establishments were pursued for ascertaining further action under Section 63 of the Act. The squad initiated penal action against businesses for violation of Section 122, 130 of GST Act and Rule 10 A of JK GST rules.
DC Appeals was accompanied by State Taxes Officers of the concerned Circle and other team members. The visits by the team are expected to continue in Srinagar and adjoining districts in the coming days.
