Samba admin launches major crackdown against illegal mining
14 vehicles seized, 16 vehicles fined on spot, Rs 3 lakh penalty compounded in one week: Officials
SAMBA, May 10: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Samba Abhishek Sharma the Geology and Mining Department has intensified its efforts to crack the whip on illegal mining of minor minerals by laying round the clock Nakas in several areas of Samba district.
During the exercise, DMO Samba, M Sayeed and team seized dozens of minor mineral laden vehicles in different parts of the District.
During the crackdown, around 30 vehicles including 10 dumpers, 18 tractor trolleys and 2 JCB machines were seized and penalized. Besides a fine of Rs 3 lakh has been compounded, this includes the vehicles apprehended by Samba Police.
The departmental team asked drivers to purchase minerals from legal sources only and stay away from illegal mining practices.
The District administration has adopted a zero tolerance policy against illegal mining and unauthorized transportation of minerals and people involved in the illegal trade shall not be spared, said a senior officer.
The drive was conducted in continuation to the administration’s tough stance against illegal mining in the district.
The locals were also asked to alert the administration of all illegal mining activities so that strict action could be initiated against those involved.
Meanwhile, authorities have urged general public to purchase the minor minerals (construction material) from the legal vendors on notified Government rates through online mode with assured service deliverance within the given time frame.
