Samba police arrest notorious bovine smuggler, rescue 14 animals

Continuing their relentless pursuit of bovine smugglers, the Samba police have dealt a major blow to a smuggling ring, arresting a notorious smuggler, rescuing 14 animals, and seizing three vehicles in separate operations.

Identified as Younis Ali, the apprehended smuggler hails from Anantnag district and was actively involved in the illegal transport of cattle. His capture marks a significant victory for the law enforcement agency in its ongoing campaign against bovine smuggling. The success unfolded through meticulous police work across the Samba district.

Three cases have been filed with the police. FIR No. 02/2024 pertains to offenses under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 11 PCA Act, 03 Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act, and 184 Motor Vehicles (MV) Act. This case was registered at Police Samba through Police Post Rakh Amb Talli. Additionally, FIR No. 03/2024 involves charges under Section 188 IPC and 11 PCA Act and has been registered at Police Samba. An investigation has commenced for both of these cases.

Furthermore, FIR No. 07/2024 has been registered at Police Station Samba, involving offenses under Section 279, 429, 188 IPC, and 11 PCA Act. The investigation has been initiated for this case as well.

Senior Superintendent of Police Samba, Benam Tosh, lauded his team’s efforts and highlighted the broader impact of the ongoing crackdown. He revealed that in the past eleven and a half months since the launch of a special drive against bovine smuggling, Samba police have apprehended a total of 109 notorious smugglers, registered 92 FIRs, seized 80 vehicles used in smuggling activities, and rescued 852 bovine animals.
