Samba police thwart bovine smuggling; 4 arrested, 11 animals rescued
In a major crackdown on bovine smuggling, the Samba Police arrested four individuals and seized three vehicles in the early hours of February 12th, 2024. A total of eleven bovines were rescued during the operation.

The arrests took place at two separate locations within the jurisdiction of Police Station Samba and Police Station Ghagwal.
At the Mansar Morh naka, a police team intercepted two Mahindra load carriers carrying a total of six bovines without valid permits. The drivers, identified as Junaid Ahmed, Farooq Ahmed Malik, and two unidentified women, were apprehended.
Meanwhile, at the NHW Tapyal naka, another police party stopped a Mahindra load carrier without a registration number. The vehicle was found to be transporting five bovines tied in a cruel manner. While the driver managed to escape, the bovines were rescued, and the vehicle was seized.
Cases have been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the absconding driver.
