School of Biotechnology, JU organises Industrial visit to SIDCO Samba
Jammu, August 14: The School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu organized a one-day Industrial visit to SIDCO, samba. A total of forty students of fourth semester M.Sc Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Microbiology were part of the visit. The visit was part of the curriculum and its aim was to provide students insight into the real working environment, workstations, assembly lines, advanced technologies and to interact with highly trained and experienced personnel. Such activities equip the students according to the needs of industries alsofor their future endeavours. The students were very enthusiastic about the visit and had lots of their doubts cleared about the functioning of the various industries. Needless to mention, their curriculum includes courses like Bioprocess Engineering, Fermentation Technology, Enzymology, Food Microbiology etc. and therefore the industries selected were those which would augment the theory courses and the concepts would become more clear. Industries that were visited included Kandhari Beverages where the automated process of making of soft drinks and botting along with the Quality controls were explained in detail. In Devan Breweries students had the first hand exposure of various steps involved in fermentation process of Beer making and bottling in detail. The process of Poly polyethylene terephthalate bottle and Leather (shoe) manufacturing was very well elucidated at Viney Aggarwal industries and Vasak Industries respectively.Industrial trips are highly beneficial for students of Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Microbiology as they provide real – world exposure to various aspects of the industry. The visit offered the students an opportunity to observe and interact with professionals, equipment and processes used in these companies. This first hand experience will help them to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, enhancing their understanding of concepts and techniques. Additionally such visits to industry can inspire career choices, foster networking opportunities, and provide insights into the latest trends and technologies in the field. Students asked questions, sought advice and also potentially established contacts that might be beneficial for future job placements and internships. Witnessing the practical applications of their subject will inspire them to excel in their studies and work harder to achieve their career goals.
The industrial trip was made possible with the kind support of Mr. Kishor Singh Chib, Director Industries, Mr. Surinder Paul Sharma, General Manager DIC and Mr. Pankaj Sasan, Functional Manager DIC Samba. Also organisation of the visit was made possible with the help of Mr. Satinder Singh and Mr. Sandeep (Kandhari Beverages), Mr. Lalit Devan and Mr. G. S Sandu (Devan Breweries) and Mr. Viney Aggarwal and Anil Bakshi (Viney Aggarwal and Vasak Industries). The students were well accepted in all the industries visited and were given free access to various manufacturing procedures. It was a wonderful experience for all of them as per the feedback of the students.
Dr. Ankit Mahajan, Dr. S. Bharathiraja and Dr.Mridhu Sharmafaculty members of the School of Biotechnology organised the visit and accompanied the students.
