School of Languages and Literature, SMVDU organises a Book Release function

KATRA, SMVDU March 1: A book release function was organized at the Matrika Auditorium of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Katra by the School of Languages and Literature.

The book titled “Glimpses of Dogra Culture and Heritage” written by prominent writer Ashok Kumar Sharma was jointly released by Padama shree Prof. RK Sinha, Vice Chancellor SMVDU, noted writers and Padama shree awardees Prof. Shiv Nirmohi, Dr. Jatinder Udhampuri and Sh. Mohan Singh, at a function in Matrika Auditorium SMVDU.

Prof. RK Sinha, Vice Chancellor SMVDU in his address emphasized the need for promoting local culture, heritage and literature among the younger generation through institutions of Higher education. Prof. Sinha congratulated Ashok Sharma for his brilliant work that has immense literary value and hoped that the book will fulfil the aspirations of masses who wish to know about our regional folk literature, culture and heritage.

Prof. Shiv Nirmohi eminent Dogri Scholar, Poet, writer and Padama shree awardee congratulated Ashok Kumar Sharma and said that his book will help in highlighting Dogra Culture at international level.

Noted Dogri writer and Padama shree Dr. Jatinder Udhampuri in his address complemented Ashok Kumar Sharma for coming up with a most wanted collection of articles on regional folk, literature and culture. He complimented the efforts of the author in showcasing Dogra traditions, culture and heritage.

Eminent writer and Padama Shree Mohan Singh in his address said that Sharma’s book presents an authentic picture of Dogra, culture and heritage and each of his articles shall inspire the readers. He said that Dogri literature is growing in leaps and bounds for which he complimented all native writers.

On this occasion, Ashok Kumar Sharma, the author of the book, also shared his experiences in the research and documentation process and his wish to publish this collection of literary pieces that are in fact documents of our cultural heritage. He also threw light on the contents of the released book.

A large number of intellectuals, writers, faculty members, research scholars, students and others attended the programme.

Dr Isha Malhotra, Coordinator of the programme extended the vote of thanks to all the dignitaries and audience present on the occasion. A galaxy of intellectuals, faculty members, scholars and students were present on the occasion.
