Self defence training camp held at GCW Udhampur
UDHAMPUR, January 19: To train and impart knowledge of various martial skills to students, a one day Self defense Training Camp was held today in Government College for Women Udhampur.
The Camp was organized by Committee Against Sexual Harassment in collaboration with 1 J&K Girls BN under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and under the guidance and support of Principal of the college, Dr. Monika Sharma.
The objective of the Self defense Training Camp was to educate the students and NCC cadets of the college about the various Self defense techniques required in our day to day life.
The resource persons cum trainers of the camp were Sensei Sheikh Aftab, Hindustani 3 degree black belt in karate, Chief instructor/Technical director and President District Udhampur Karate association, Udhay Singh Second Don Black Belt in Karate and General Secretary District Udhampur Karate Association, Sneha student of Sem-V from GCW Udhampur, Suhana Bashir a national medalist in karate who learned karate from Government institute of Chhattisgarh, SAI (sports Authority of India), Mehak of class 10 most popular player of karate at National level, Shivi Badyal-first Don Black belt in karate who is also a multitalented Singer and anchor.
The program started with the formal welcome address by Prof. Shallu Jasrotia, ANO (NCC). Sensei Sheikh Aftab started the first session by encouraging the students to use their right of self defence as a legal justification for the use of force in times of danger.
A group of students as well as teaching faculty of the college practically learned the techniques and various methods of Self defense as taught by the trainers. Resource persons/Trainers were honoured with mementoes and certificates of Appreciation. NCC Cadet Manvi Singh and Cadet Aastha of the college anchored the programme. More than 80 students attended the event. Prof. Sarika Mahajan, Dr. Kewal Kumar, Prof. Tania Akhtar, Prof. Yash Kumar and NCC Caretaker also graced the occasion with their benign presence.
The program ended with the formal vote of thanks by Dr. Ashok Sharma, Co-convener cash.
