Seminar held on World Day against Child Labour held at SIDCO Lassipora
Speakers called for reporting Child Labour to child protection authorities promptly
PULWAMA, June 12: In a bid to create awareness and show individual and collective resolve to eliminate the menace of Child Labour, a Seminar was held today at SIDCO Lassipora by the Department of Labour, Pulwama in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Pulwama.
Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Pulwama, Sheikh Abdul Aziz was the chief guest on the occasion.
During the programme, various speakers stressed upon the responsibility of citizens in contributing their part towards the eradication of this evil.
The ADDC spoke on the history of Celebration of the World Child Labour Day and Child Labour Act, 1986 and penal provisions.
He raised awareness among the audience about the need of controlling the menace of child labour through Legislative, welfare, protection measures and through integration of child labourers into maintain education sector.
Assistant Labour Commissioner, while speaking on the occasion elucidated the role of society in taking care of the economically weaker sections of the society and government authorities towards the goal of Child labour free society.
Advocates from DLSA, Pulwama enumerated the provisions of the Child Labour Act and emphasised upon the gathering to report cases of the Child Labour before Inspectors notified under the Act besides spoke at length on the need of eradication of poverty in society in order to control and arrest the child labour.
The Labour Officer anchored the Seminar and spoke on the topic and called for spreading of word against the menace.
Various student speakers also took part in the deliberations of the topic.
The program was attended by students, officials of labour, school education, higher education, DLSA and other child welfare and protection stakeholders.
