Sharan Dev Singh Thakur Designated as Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India
NEW DELHI,August 14th, 2024 : The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday conferred the designation of Senior Advocate on Mr. Sharan Dev Singh Thakur. The prestigious gown was awarded following a thorough selection process conducted by the committee for designation of Senior Advocates (CDSA) which is headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud and comprises of other members which include Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Bhushan R Gavai (two senior-most judges), Attorney General R Venkataramani and Ms. Madhavi Divan (a nominated member of the Bar). The committee followed a rigorous selection mechanism that considered the candidates on a range of factors, including total years of standing at the Bar, reported judgments, academic articles, publication of books and columns, guest lectures and pro-bono work etc.
Sharan Dev Singh Thakur is one of the youngest lawyers to be designated as a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India from Jammu & Kashmir. Thakur, a Law graduate from Bangalore University holds an LLM from the University of Warwick, UK and is currently serving as the Additional Advocate General of the State of Uttar Pradesh in the Supreme Court. Sharan Dev Singh Thakur is the son of former Chief Justice of India, Justice T.S. Thakur and grandson of former DyCM of J&K DD Thakur.
