SHD Bandipora organizes training program on ARTs in Sheep & Goats at Kunan
BANDIPORA, January 07: The Sheep Husbandry Department (SHD) Bandipora organised a two days training program on Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) in Sheep and Goats at Artificial Insemination Centre, Kunan Bandipora.
The training program was attended by field veterinarians and Para-vets of the district who were provided comprehensive Hands on training on Estrus synchronization, artificial insemination, superovulation, USG aided pregnancy diagnosis and semen analysis.
It was given out that a facility for holding such a type of training programme in the district has been created under the Aspiration block development programme.
District Sheep Husbandry officer (DSHO) Bandipora, Dr Showkat Ahmad said that earlier veterinarians of the UT of J&K had to proceed on deputation to central sheep and wool research Institute Avikanagar, Rajasthan for undergoing such type of advanced training.
He exhorted upon the field officers to hone their skills and fully utilize the techniques acquired for improving animal productivity and farmers’ income. He assured that more such capacity building programmes for the field functionaries will be organised in future.
He further said that the impetus of the present livestock breeding policy 2019 largely remains on improving animal productivity through cross/selective breeding using germplasm of higher merit and its subsequent desimination through AI&ET technology.
The DSHO urged the officers to work with zeal in order to achieve 100% breeding coverage from present 30%. He said that the department is working on a mission mode to introduce new technologies in the farmers flock for the overall benefit of the farming community.
The training programme concluded with the distribution of certificates among the participants.
