SKUAST-K organises Training/ Seed Distribution programme at KVK Bandipora
BANDIPORA, NOVEMBER 29: The Srinagar Centre of SKUAST-Kashmir, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora-1, under the Tribal Sub-Plan of the National Seeds Project (NSP), AICRP on Seed, today organized a Training-cum-Seed Distribution programme.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 150 farmers and farm women from tribal areas of the district.
Prof. Asif B. Shikari, Nodal Officer of NSP and Head of the Division of Vegetable Science, SKUAST-Kashmir presided over as the chief guest.
In his address, he emphasized the critical role of quality seeds in enhancing crop productivity and reaffirmed SKUAST-Kashmir’s commitment to developing high-yielding crop varieties tailored to the valley’s unique agro-climatic conditions.
Earlier, the event commenced with an address by Dr. Shabir Ahmad Ganai, Scientist at KVK Bandipora, who also facilitated interactive sessions with farmers to address their concerns and gather valuable feedback.
Dr. Gowhar Ali, Associate Professor in Genetics and Plant Breeding at SKUAST-Kashmir, highlighted the pivotal contributions of the National Seeds Project (NSP), Shalimar, in ensuring the availability of high-quality seeds to farmers.
Dr. Tariq Sultan, Programme Coordinator, KVK Bandipora-1, expressed the Kendra’s dedication to supporting the farming community, particularly tribal farmers. He lauded the collaborative efforts that have helped address the challenges faced by farmers in the district.
As a significant takeaway from the programme, 20 quintals of Shalimar Fodder Oats seed were distributed among tribal farmers, aiming to improve livestock nutrition and enhance agricultural sustainability in the region.
