SMVDU faculty bestowed with Dr. GP Talwar Gold Medal at Raveshaw University Cuttak
REASI, 12 April : Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Senior Assistant Professor School of Biotechnology, SMVDU has been awarded with Dr. GP Talwar Gold Medal oration award at Ravenshaw University Cuttack by ISSRF (Indian Society for the Study of Reproduction and Fertility).
Dr. Rakesh has done his Ph.D. from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi and is Post doctorate from Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis MO, USA and University of Texas Southwestern Medical Centre Dallas USA.
His group’s current research interests are in mechanistic elucidations of different cancers, reproductive biology disorders in the northern region of India particularly Jammu and Kashmir. Presently he is leading the group of scientists from 04 universities of Jammu and Kashmir in a joint study by ICMR on reproductive disorders of Jammu and Kashmir.
During his tenure he has received numerous awards for his work, prominent among them are Dr. GP Talwar young scientist award, Best Oral presentation award, outstanding award from Neuro-texas Institute research foundation, Austin Texas, USA and Best Paper award from Andrology Society of India.
He has published more than 90 papers during his tenure which included peer reviewed high impact factor journals like Nature, Molecular Cell, PNAS, Cancer Research, JBC, MCB, NAR etc. In the last 11 years, he received numerous grants from funding agencies like ICMR, DST, JK-DST worth crores of Rupees. Padama Shri RK Sinha, Vice chancellor of SMVDU congratulated him on the receipt of the award.
