Special Lok Adalat on Matrimonial, MACT, Bank Recovery Cases, Criminal Compoundable Cases and other Pre-Litigation matters held at Kathua
Six benches settle 273 cases; realize Rs. 90.03 lakh as settlement amount
KATHUA, November 03: Under the insightful directions of Justice Tashi Rabstan, Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority and also under the radiant guidance of Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Kathua Ashok Kumar Shavan, (also Pr. District & Sessions Judge, Kathua), a Special Lok Adalat on Matrimonial Cases, MACT, Bank Recovery Cases, Criminal Compoundable Cases, and other Pre-Litigation matters of the calendar year 2023.
The Special Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Kathua (also Pr. District & Sessions Judge, Kathua) Ashok Kumar Shavan, today with the ceremonial lighting of lamp in District Court Complex Kathua where in his address to the mammoth gathering he threw light on the purpose of holding Special Lok Adalat.
Six Benches for settling the referred cases were constituted in which Bench No. 1 was comprising of Ashok Kumar Shavan, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Kathua and Surinder Kumar Thappa, Special Mobile Magistrate, Kathua; Bench No. 2 was comprising of Kusoom Pandita, Additional District & Sessions Judge, Kathua and Cheena Sumbria, Munsiff JMIC Kathua; Bench No. 3 was comprising of Swati Gupta, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kathua and Neena Thakur, District Mobile Magistrate, Kathua; Bench No. 4 was comprising of Jeevan Kumar Sharma, Munsiff JMIC, Basohli, Advocate Shub Kumar, President, Bar Association Basohli; Bench No. 5 was comprising of Jyoti Bhagat, Munsiff JMIC, Billawar and Mrs. Poonam Gupta, Addl. Special Mobile Magistrate, Billawar; Bench No. 6 consisted of Rimpi Rani, Munsiff JMIC, Hiranagar and Vijay Kumar, President, Bar Association Hiranagar.
Rekha Kapoor Nischal, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Kathua coordinated the Special Lok Adalat of the calendar year, 2023 organized at ADR Centre, District Court Complex Kathua.
The matters placed before the Benches included Hindu Marriage Act (HMA), Motor Vehicle Act, MACT Cases, Bank Recovery (both pre- litigation and post-litigation) matters, Criminal Compoundable, and also Traffic Challans.
While settling matrimonial cases, in a best endeavour by the benches, 2 cases titled Neeraj Vs Balbir and Romesh Kumar Vs Meena Kumari were resolved amicably.
The cases filed by either party were for seeking the divorce and by the efforts of the bench, the dispute was resolved by resumption of their marital relation saving their home and further married life. So it has proved to be an effective Special Lok Adalat.

A total number of 384 cases were taken up for amicable settlement out of which 273 cases were settled and an amount of Rs. 90,03,994/- was realized as settlement amount.
