Prabhari Officers play guardians’ role in finalising annual GPDPs
KATHUA, April 10: The Special Gram Sabha Meetings were on Monday held in all 257 panchayats of Kathua District to finalize and approve the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) 2023-24. Prabhari Officers and Officers of Line departments attended the meetings.
The Panchayats met with members and other stakeholders to finalize the priorities of respective Panchayat halqas, while 21 Line departments also came up with their development Plans for panchayats so as to formulate a workable and inclusive GPDP. The front-line workers/supervisors of all key sectors were also roped in to get feedback on the key issues of the panchayats.
After extensive and brainstorming discussion, all 257 Gram Panchayats approved the GPDP aligned with the 09 thematic areas for LSDGs, which are an integral part of the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development Goals and are the key to ensure that no one is left behind in the journey towards sustainable development.
While throwing light on the extensive exercise of holding Special Gram Sabhas for GPDP, the Prabhari Officer for Kardoh Panchayat, Dr Mushtaq Ahmed (Special Secretary, Information Department) said, “The event holds prime importance in the development calendar of the PRIs as it provides an opportunity to the locals to come together and participate in the decision-making process for their respective panchayats”. He further said “the approved GPDPs are reflective of the needs and aspirations of the community and will pave the way for the achievement of the Localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs)”.
During the Special Gram Sabhas, panchayats were also sensitised about the ongoing Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls and on spot registration of new voters along with applications for deletion and correction which are also being entertained by BLOs and supervisors.
Pertinently, the approval of GPDP for the year 2023-24, will provide Gram Panchayats full year for implementation and effective monitoring of works. This will also help Gram Panchayats to effectively utilise the resources available with them and other schematic interventions under GPDP during 2023-24.
