Special Summary Revision-2024: DEO Shopian appeals Youth for Voter Registration
SHOPIAN, AUGUST 05: In view of the ongoing Special Summary Revision (SSR), which commenced on July 25, 2024, the District Election Office, Shopian, has once again called on the public, especially youth, to register as voters using July 1, 2024, as the qualifying date.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has set August 9, 2024, as the deadline for filing claims and objections.
Meanwhile, the District Election Officer (DEO) Shopian has urged all eligible citizens to participate in this critical democratic process and ensure their voices are heard in future elections.
Currently, Shopian district has approximately 207,000 registered voters, representing around 62% of the total population. To increase voter registration, particularly among young citizens, the district has organized special camps and numerous awareness activities during the ongoing Summary Revision for registration of new voters or changes to the Roll, resulting in the registration of around 3,000 new voters in the district.
In this context, Dr. Rashmi Singh, Commissioner Secretary to Government, Hospitality and Protocol Department and the Electoral Roll Observer for Shopian is going to visit the district on August 6, 2024 and shall be available to receive feedback from the public and political parties on the election related issues.
