State Tax Office, Excise Complex, Udhampur imparts three-Day Training on GST to the Students of Udhampur Campus, JU
UDHAMPUR, 15 MAY: The Department of Commerce, Udhampur Campus, organised a three-day field visit from May 11-13, 2023 for the students of M. Com at the Excise Complex, Circle Udhampur, Near Udhampur Railway Station on the topic “GST and its practical implications”to enhance their understanding of GST laws and practices.
The purpose of the field visit was to provide the students with practical exposure and hands-on experience in the field of Goods and Services Tax (GST), new compliances, its implementation and the changes in processes in operating business.Led by Dr Ritika Sambyal and Mr. Nikhil Khajuria, Faculty, Department of Commerce, Udhampur Campus, students visited the Excise Complex, Circle Udhampur, a key centre for the administration and implementation of GST in the region.
During the three-day visit, the students had the opportunity to interact with experts includingMr. Vishal Targotra (Jr. KAS) State Tax Officer, Ms. Meeta (Inspector, State Tax Office), Mr. Rajesh Verma (Inspector, State Tax Office) and Mr. Rohit (Enforcement Wing)from the Excise Department gain valuable insights into the various aspects of GST implementation. They were given a detailed overview of the GST regime and its practical implications, including the registration process, filing of returns, and payment of taxes, E-way bill, Tax Invoice, electronic ledgers, etc.
The students also had the opportunity to visit various sections of the Excise Complex (State Tax Office, Enforcement wing etc) and observe the functioning of the GST system in real-time. The students were also able to witness the firsthand challenges faced by businesses in complying with the GST regime and the role of the Excise Department in enforcing compliance.The field visit was highly appreciated by the students, who found it to be an enriching and enlightening experience. They expressed their gratitude to the Department of Commerce, Udhampur Campus, for organising such an informative and engaging field visit.
Speaking on the occasion, the Rector, Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu Prof. Yash Pal Sharma said, “The field visit was a fantastic learning opportunity for our students. They were able to see first-hand how GST is being implemented in various industries and understand the challenges faced by businesses. Besides being the mandate of NEP 2020, we believe that this practical exposure will help our students to better understand the GST laws and practices.” He expressed his gratitude to the officers and staff of the Excise Department, Udhampur for imparting valuable training to the students and hoped to see more of these types of training offered to our students in the future.
