Student Council Elections conclude at GDC Nobra in Leh
Nubra, August 21,2024: Govt. Degree College Nobra successfully conducted the Student Council Elections for the academic session 2024-25 on 21st August 2024. The elections were held for the posts of President, Vice President and General Secretary/Treasurer. The election proceedings were held during the week and saw widespread participation from the students. Candidates also competed in an engaging 2-hour Presidential debate during the course of the student election campaign.
The voting process began on 21st August 2024 at 11:00 hrs and ended at 12.30 pm. The total college student voter turnout was 76.4 percentage. Sanju Kumari from Semester 3rd was elected as the President of Student Council, while Shah Jhan(Semester 3rd) Samina Anjum(Semester 1st), were elected unopposed as Vice President and General Secretary/Treasurer respectively.
The College IQAC Committee conducted the student council elections and also organized a felicitation ceremony for the newly elected student council members. Speaking on the occasion, the Principal, Dr Tsewang Motup congratulated the student council and underlined the importance of student empowerment achieved through the constitution of a student council. He also called upon the newly elected student body to shoulder their responsibilities with steadfast dedication and sincerity. The ceremony began with a welcome address by Convener, IQAC; Sonam Angmo (Assistant Professor, English) who gave a detailed report on the election proceedings.
The student council elections were supported by the college faculties who also acted as election officials for the same: Asstt Prof. Tsewang Lahmo as (Returning Officer), Asstt Prof. Mohd Mussa(Sector Magistrate), Asstt Prof. Rinchen Angmo(Presiding Officer), and Assistant Professors Padma Lhamo and Spalzes, Angmo acted as Polling Officers. The event also served as a platform to educate the young voters about the electoral system of the country. The elected student body sworn in by taking oath and were presented with certificates and khatags.
