SWD Baramulla, ALIMCO organise Prosthetic Aid Distribution Camp at Indoor Sports Stadium
Dr Sehrish presides over programme; says Qualitative rehabilitation of Specially-abled persons our core concern
BARAMULLA, January 14: The Social Welfare Department (SWD) Baramulla in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) today organized a Mega Rehabilitation distribution camp of Prosthetic Aids under Assistance to Disabled persons (ADIP) scheme at Indoor Sports Stadium Baramulla.
The Rehabilitation Distribution Camp was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar in presence of Additional District Development Commissioner, Aijaz Abdullah Saraf and other functionaries of concerned departments.
At the outset, District Social Welfare Officer Baramulla, Nissar Ahmad highlighted the importance of organizing the camp besides disseminated information with regard to the measures taken by the government for the welfare of the specially-abled persons from time to time.
During the camp, different aids and appliances including Wheelchairs Adult and small, CP Chair, Hearing Aids, Motor Tri cycle, Smartphones, tabs and other appliances were distributed among 640 already identified beneficiaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sehrish said that the main objective of the scheme is to assist the needy specially-abled persons by providing durable, sophisticated and scientifically manufactured, modern standard aids and appliances to promote physical social, psychological rehabilitation of persons with disabilities by reducing the effects of disabilities and at the same time enhance their economic potential.
She further asserted that Assistive devices were given to persons with Disabilities (PwDs) with an aim to improve their independent functioning and to arrest the extent of disability and occurrence of secondary disability besides distribution of Prosthetic aid.
Meanwhile, the DDC appreciated the efforts of ALIMCO and the Social Welfare department to ease the problems faced by differently-abled people and hand holding them regularly.
She reiterated that qualitative Rehabilitation of Specially Abled Persons is the core concern of district administration and is akin to the problems faced by the people with special needs and assured them every possible support that will ease the problems of such people.
