SWD Jammu observes Int’l Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking
DC calls on stakeholders to fight the menace religiously
JAMMU, June 26: International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed today by the office of the District Social Welfare Officer, Jammu in collaboration with District Administration Jammu at Teachers Bhawan, Gandhi Nagar.
The programme was organized with an aim to make people aware of the harmful effects of drugs and to determine a society free of drug abuse especially among youth.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Avny Lavasa appealed the participants to deliver the message to common masses about the hazards of drug abuse. She encouraged the participants to be a part of the campaign.
The Deputy Commissioner also informed the participants that there is a dire need to address reasons which provoke youth towards drugs. She urged the participants to work religiously to eradicate this evil from the society.
District Social Welfare Officer, Jammu, Mamta Rajput also briefed the participants about the launch of Nasha Mukt Panchayat Abhiyaan in all the panchayats of Jammu district through the Rural Development Department on the direction of Hon’ble LG, Sh. Manoj Sinha.
She further said that efforts of the Social Welfare Department is to reach out to various sections of society by conducting awareness events, campaigns which are all aimed towards eradicating drugs and substance abuse to create a drug free society, a drug free Jammu and a drug free Nation.
Earlier, the event was started with the signature campaign and subsequently Swasth Rath ,the Bike rally and Walkathon were flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner Jammu in the presence of Director General, Social Welfare Department Jammu, Vivek Sharma; Mission Director, Mission Shakti/Mission Vatsalya J&K, Harvinder Kour; ADC, Law & Order Jammu, Harvinder Singh and other Officers and Officials of District Administration and Social Welfare Department.
During the programme, various activities were organized to inform the participants regarding the harmful effects of drugs. A skit was also presented by students of MAM College, Jammu. The NCC and NSS Cadets of MAM College, Science College, Women College Parade and Biker Association were also present in the event.
