Targeting Youth for Strengthening Democracy: Voter Awareness Camp held at GDC Shopian
SHOPIAN, SEPTEMBER 13: The Electoral Literacy Club of the Government Degree College, Shopian today organized a Voter awareness camp at its campus in order to give a fillip to the efforts of election authorities for ensuring participation of first time voters in the festival of democracy.
The event featured varied SVEEP activities including participation of students and young voters in crowd sourcing of SVEEP content. They also actively involved in quiz, essay and painting competitions for voter awareness.
The events were inaugurated by the Principal Government Degree College, Shopian, Prof. (Dr.) M Shafiq.
Prof. Arshad Rasool, Dr. Anees-ul Mehmood, Prof. Iftikhar Ahmed and Prof. Ishaq (NSS officer), campus ambassadors along with students of different departments and ELC members participated in the events.
The campus ambassadors, members of the ELC club and the students were given first hand information about the electoral process by Prof. Arshad Rasool, the Convener Electoral Literacy Club.
A lecture was presented by the Nodal officer ELC about the voting rights and emphasis was given on the Use of vote and power of ‘Universal Adult Franchise’ by which the electorate can choose their representatives in free and fair elections.
