Telangana: Women journalist file complaint at Women’s Commission after alleged attack at CM’s hometown
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], August 23 (ANI): Female journalists Saritha Avula and Vijaya Reddy filed a complaint at the Telangana State Women Commission on Friday, urging the commission to take action against an incident after they were allegedly attacked by Congress workers on Thursday at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s hometown at Kondareddypalle village, Vikarabad district.
Journalist Sarita said that during an on-ground report on farmer loan waivers at Kondareddypalle, Congress workers attacked them on Wednesday, took away their phones and also used abusive language.
Speaking to ANI, Saritha said, “Yesterday, while we were doing a ground report at Kondareddypalle on farmer loan waiver, some people snatched away our phones and used abusive language with us. We have filed a complaint yesterday on this at the local police station. Today, we have given a complaint to the Women’s Commision.”
Further, she added that videos would be submitted to the Women’s Commission and the Director General of Police (DGP) adding that strict action should be taken against the accused.
“We will also meet the DGP in some time. We are submitting the videos also to both the Women’s Commision and DGP. We demand that strict action should be taken against those who attacked us. We hope that the government and the Women’s Commision will act in our favour,” she added.
The journalists will also file a complaint with the Telangana DGP Jitender.
Earlier on Thursday, Saritha took to X and in a post had written about the alleged attack and said that they were physically assaulted by the Congress workers.
The post said, “Congress workers in CM Revanth Reddy’s hometown Kondareddypalle physically assaulted me and fellow journalist Vijaya Reddy while we were reporting on the implementation of the farm loan waiver. Our camera was smashed, phones were snached and we were pushed into mud.”
Further, she urged Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi to recognise the troubling reality in Telangana.
The post read, “I urge Mr. @RahulGandhi and Smt. @priyankagandhi to recognise the troubling reality in Telangana. I also hope the Press Council of India takes serious note of this attack on women journalists in Telangana.”
