Telecom services remain suspended in Rajouri and Poonch districts to quell security threats

Residents of Rajouri and Poonch districts in Jammu province continue to face a blackout of mobile data and public Wi-Fi services, as authorities extend the suspension.

The suspension, which began at 11:00 PM on December 26th, has been enforced under the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017.

The Jammu and Kashmir Home Department has cited concerns over the potential misuse of telecom services by “anti-national elements” as the primary reason for the suspension.

The order, issued by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Jammu Zone, specifically mentions the possibility of mobile data and public Wi-Fi being utilized to disrupt peace and security in the region.
