TLSC B’pora organises Awareness programme on Prohibition of Child Marriage
BANDIPORA, OCTOBER 20: The Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) Bandipora under the aegis of JK Legal Services Authority Friday organized an awareness programme at Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School, Bandipora to raise awareness on the issue of Child Marriage.
The event was presided over by Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Bandipora, Amit Sharma. Chairman (Munsiff/JMIC) Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Bandipora.
The programme was organised to enhance legal awareness among the participants and to impart fundamental understanding of protection of children from early marriage.
Advocate Aamir Shafi highlighted the detrimental effects of child marriage on the younger generation, particularly the adverse mental and physical consequences faced by young boys and girls. He articulated the complexities surrounding this social malady and the grave consequences it has on the lives of young individuals. This harmful practice not only deprives children of their childhood but also exposes them to a higher risk of violence, exploitation and abuse, he added.
Furthermore, the participants were informed about the various legal provisions available to deter the public from engaging in such practices.
Principal GGHSS Bandipora, stressed that Child Marriage is a matter of serious concern as it denies a child the basic right to good health, nutrition and education. It is widely acknowledged that early marriage makes girls more vulnerable to violence, abuse and exploitation, he said.
Among others, the programme was attended by Principal Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Bandipora Mohammad Rafiq Parray, Officials of DLSA Bandipora, teaching and non-teaching staff of the institution, PLVs besides students at large.
