Training & Capacity Building Camp to empower local farmers held at Shopian

SHOPIAN, JULY 27: The District Sheep Husbandry Organization today conducted a training and capacity-building camp under the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) at the District Employment and Counselling Centre, Shirmal, Shopian.


The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of numerous local sheep farmers.


As part of the program, medicine kits were distributed to the sheep farmers under the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP).


Additionally, sanction letters for the establishment of commercial farms (comprising 50 ewes each) were issued to selected beneficiaries on the spot.


On the occasion, Dr. Tariq Ahmad Malik, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Shopian emphasized the critical role of such training sessions in equipping farmers with modern techniques and best practices in sheep husbandry. He reiterated the department’s commitment to providing continuous support and resources to the farming community through various sheep husbandry schemes like ISDS/HADP and the provisions under DAKSH Kissan.


Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Khanday, Sheep and Wool Development Officer, Shopian, along with other officers from the department were present at the event.


The officers highlighted the significance of the medicine kits distributed under NADCP, stressing the importance of proper disease control measures for maintaining the health and productivity of livestock. They also discussed various strategies for the promotion of wool and pelt, focusing on their effective processing and marketing.
