Two arrested for attacking police constable in MP’s Ujjain, third accused still at large
Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 27 (ANI): Two goons who allegedly attacked a police constable in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district were arrested after an encounter with police Friday night, officials said on Saturday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mahesh Lodhi (26) and Rahul Bose (20). Both accused were arrested three times previously in connection with loot and other cases of crime. They were in jail in 2017 and 2020, officials said.
According to police, the arrested accused attacked the constable when they were stopped for questioning in connection to a loot incident reported under the Ghatiya police station on Thursday night.
Ujjain Superintendent of Police (SP) Pradeep Sharma told ANI, “An incident of loot occurred under Ghatiya police station limits on Thursday night. Three persons were stopped by two constables Vikram and Akash for questioning. One of them attacked a constable Akash and stabbed him with a knife.”
“The constable was taken to a hospital and is out of danger,” the SP said, adding that the suspects managed to flee from the scene.
SP Sharma said that they received information on Friday night that two of the suspects, Mahesh Lodhi (26) and Rahul Bose (20), were trying to flee and were spotted in the Sawara Khedi area.
Following the information, a team of Madhav Nagar police reached and started chasing them. “During the chase, one of the suspects opened fire on the police team. In retaliatory action, Mahesh Lodhi was shot in the leg,” the SP said.
The accused, trying to flee on a bike, fell to the ground. Both suspects sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.
“Both Lodhi and Bose have been arrested, and another suspect, Shiv, is absconding. Efforts are underway to nab him,” SP Sharma added.
