Two Day International Conference on Sustainable Development in Chemical and Material Sciences (SDCMS-2024) Concludes at CUJ
Jammu, 05th April 2024: A two-day International Conference on Sustainable Development in Chemical and Material Sciences (SDCMS-2024) was organized by Department of Chemistry from 4th to 5th April 2024 in the academic block of Central University of Jammu. The conference involved a gathering of renowned scientists and academicians across the country and abroad.
The inaugural session of the conference was held on yesterday, and was graced by the hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, Prof. Sanjeev Jain.
Prof. Sameer Sapra, Department of Chemistry, IIT Delhi was the guest of honour and the special guest was Prof. Muhannad Al Aiti, Chair Professor, TU Dresden, Germany.
At the outset, Dr.Kamlesh Kumar the Convener of the conference and Head of the Department of Chemistry, gave an overview of the conference emphasizing on the importance of sustainable development in the chemical sciences.
Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu and chief guest of the conference in his presidential address emphasized on the importance of applied chemistry and insisted upon to focus that research in chemistry should help the nation to develop sustainable andenvironmentally friendly energy and many other different valuable discoveries. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Akshay.
An approximate number of 250 participants were registered for the conference. The technical sessions comprised the keynote talks by eminent speakers from various universities across India and abroad. A total number of 60 oral and poster presentations were delivered by the participants from various universities across India in the conference on the first day of the conference.
Due to the large number of participants the conference proceedings were carried out in three technical sessions with keynote lectures on various fields of expertise. Dr. Surendar Barala and Prof. Vinod Kumar was chairing the session. The technical sessions comprised the keynote talk delivered by Prof. Sameer Sapra, Department of Chemistry, IIT Delhi on “Optoelectronics and Catalysis using Transition Metal Dichalcogenide based nanoheterostructures”. Second Keynote talk was delivered by Prof. Muhannad Al Aiti,Chairperson,TU Dresden, Germany and the talk was focused on the Co-Crystallization behavior of Lignin Oligomers in pseudo melts.
Other eminent speakers of the sessions included Prof. Suman Chakrabarty, S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata, Dr. Srinivasa L. Poojary, JEOL India, Prof. Debashree Ghosh, IACS Kolkata. Dr. Akash Deep, INST Mohali. The first day session was concluded with the captivating lecture delivered by the distinguished speakers from IIT Jammu, NIT Jalandhar, IIIM Jammu, DTU Delhi and DRDO Jaipur.
On the 2nd day today, the scientific session started with a talk by eminent speaker Dr.Vivek Pachauri, RWTH Aachen University, Germany. He discussed the topic“Attempting Biologization at nano scale towards sustainable sensors technology”. Other eminent speakers with various expertise in their field of the session were Prof. Pankaj Chauhan, IITJammu, Prof.Surendra B. Anantharaman, IITM, Dr. Suman Singh, CSIR-CSIO Chandigarh, Dr.Avishek Saha, CSIR-NCL Pune, Prof. Subrata Banik, Sastra University, Dr. Manoj Nayak,CSIR-CSIO Chandigarh, Dr. Rajesh Kanawade, CSIR-NCL Pune, Prof. Debabrata Patra, INST Mohali. The session had been concluded with the vote of thanks to all the eminent speakers with a token of appreciation and a gift.
In the next segment, the two technical parallel sessions were chaired by Prof. Debasis Sarkar, MNIT Jaipur and Dr.Vivek Pachauri, RWTH Aachen University,Germany. The eminent speaker Prof. Shivnath Mazumder, IITJammu delivered a talk on the topic “Unexpected Activation of an Inert C4–H Bond in Indolyl Aldehyde over a More Reactive C2HBond: Principles of Inverting the Regioselectivity Revealed by DFT Study”.
A total number of 11 oraland 52 posters were presented by the participants from various universities and colleges across India.The chief guest of the valedictory session wasProf. Yashwant Singh Registrar of CUJ, Prof. Sameer Sapra IIT Delhi, Convener Dr. Kamlesh Kumar, and Co-convener Dr. Tapta Kanchan Roy. The Convener of the conference read the conference report. The best oral and poster presentations were announced and distributed in the valedictory session by the chief guest.Subsequently, small interaction sessions took place between students and invited speakers, and the conference proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Akshay. Overall, the occasion emphasized the progress in chemistry-related innovation and resulted in notable advancements across different sectors such as pharmaceuticals, materials science, energy, and environmental protection.
