Two day National Workshop on IPR culminate at GDC for Women Pulwama

PULWAMA, September 05: The two-day National Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) that began on 4th of September at Government Degree College (GDC) for Women, Pulwama culminated today.

The workshop provided a platform for scholars and students to delve into the intricacies of safeguarding intellectual creations, attracted participants from various Departments and fields of expertise, reflecting the widespread interest in IPR.

The workshop was organized by Institute’s Innovation Council (IIC) in collaboration with IQAC of the college with an aim to raise awareness about the significance of intellectual property rights in the contemporary world and equip attendees with valuable knowledge in this domain.

Throughout the two-day workshop, participants engaged in enlightening discussions and interactive sessions led by distinguished experts in the field of intellectual property. The workshop encompassed a broad range of topics, including copyright, patents, trademarks, and trade secrets, providing attendees with a comprehensive understanding of IPR’s multifaceted aspects.

Inaugurating the event, Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Farooq Khan, Principal of the college, emphasized the importance of intellectual property rights in fostering innovation, creativity, and economic growth. She encouraged participants to harness their creativity and knowledge and raise their awareness of the legal frameworks in place to protect their intellectual assets.

Director, JKEDI, Pampore, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat was the chief guest of the event. He in his speech highlighted the importance of IPR, besides he stressed on the various innovative products/startups especially the bio fortified dairy products, organic agriculture.

Associate Project Manager, JKEDI, Imtiyaz Ahad highlighted the significance of IPR, criteria for granting patents and case studies of bio piracy. Besides, he also highlighted the important organizations involved in patents viz., TRIPS, WIPO, CGPTD and many more.

In the afternoon session, Executive manager, EDI, Ansarullah highlighted the basic concepts of IPR and its various components like, copyright, trademark, patent, etc.

Later, Senior Patent Analyst, New-Delhi, Haneet Papraja gave a comprehensive lecture on how to file a patent. Prof. Rayees Ahmad Dar Coordinator also spoke on the occasion.

On the second day on 5th of September, 2023, the proceedings were presided over by Prof. Shafeeq Ahmad Andrabi HoD Chemistry.

Dr. Tanvir Bilal speaking on the occasion briefly highlighted the innovations concepts- and forming its prototype etc. Masood Ahmad, Advocate, District Court Pulwama, gave a brief description on the IPR and its significance, later Waseem Ahmad Shah, Advocate, District Court Pulwama, highlighted the various legal aspects related with IPR.

The workshop facilitated a dynamic exchange of ideas, enabling attendees to explore case studies, best practices, and emerging trends in IPR.

More than two hundred students participated in the programmes besides faculty members for science, arts and social science background.
