Two-day snow carnival begins in Bhaderwah
Bhaderwah/Jammu Feb 24 (PTI) Amid snow-capped mountains, a winter carnival began in Jaie Ghati in Jammu and Kashmir to boost tourism in the resort town.
Jointly organised by the army, the Doda district administration and the department of tourism, the carnival besides cultural programmes, and art and craft exhibitions, also has a snow cricket competition and stick fighting and snow wrestling displays by tribals.
The festival was inaugurated by General Officer Commanding (GoC) Major Gen Ajay Kumar and Doda Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan.
Mahajan said the festival is being organised to revive the tourism sector, which was affected by the Covid pandemic. It will also promote the popular resort for the winter season, he said.
Local and tourists, some from Australia, attended performances by renowned singer Kabul Bukhari and local folk artistes, and participated in adventure sports on the inaugural day of the carnival.
